30 DAYS/30 STORIES® 2020

Ernesto

September 10th

“Make memories for you do not know what tomorrow will bring” June 4, 2019 was the day that we heard “your child has cancer.” Ernesto, our 3 year-old little boy had leukemia. Ernesto was a funny, spunky, running little boy who loved to run wild!! He loved to play outside with his brothers, be in the pool, play with his doggie, go to Dorney Park and ride his four-wheeler/dirt bike with his daddy! Ernesto was a also a momma’s boy! He loved his Transformers! (Bumblebee and Optimus Prime were his favorite!) Ernesto had hit remission shortly after starting his treatment. He was considered high-risk, meaning he had a bigger chance of relapsing. We had an amazing 14 months until we were devastated to hear “your child has relapsed.” He was receiving a lot of chemotherapy, just to keep being told “it’s not working and we aren’t sure what to do.” We even went to another hospital for a clinical trial (CAR-T). Unfortunately, that did not work either. Then he ended up getting a fungal infection which then lead to respiratory issues. Ernesto, my angel, my hero, my best friend gained his wings on February 21, 2020. He was surrounded with so much love. Since June 4, 2018, PCFLV has been with us every step of the way. They are always so kind and offering family assistance when needed. We were able to receive gas cards, Walmart/Target gift cards, vouchers for food at the hospital, help with the holidays (Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day). For Ernesto’s brother, Jason, we were able to send him to Camp Smile for a week in 2019, and he had a blast. PCFLV is always thinking of the cancer children and their siblings.
