Last summer, Mason started a prescription that needed regular blood draws. Until January, the results came back all normal. January‘s results showed that all his blood levels dropped below their standard range for his age.

A few weeks after Mason went off his medicine, the results were still not up to par.

We took him in for a lumbar puncture and bone marrow biopsy and aspiration on March 5. We got the call on March 6, 2020 with his diagnosis of B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

We had him admitted right away to start treatment. Soon after his initial admission COVID hit and our struggle got harder. Every week for months Mason and one of us had to go to the hospital for his treatment during the pandemic. He even had an ER visit after 4 weeks of treatment for a serious staph infection which kept him in the hospital for 11 days. We got through the first two phases which resulted in him not getting into total remission.

We were referred to CHOP at the suggestion of his doctors, to put Mason in the CAR T-cell trial. He had his T-cells taken on July 3 and re-infused on August 11. That process has broken up our family for 4 weeks, because Mason has had to stay local to CHOP once he got his cells back for possible serious side effects as a result of his treatment.

Throughout all of this, PFCLV has been supporting us with Zoom meetings and gift cards to help keep our family pushing forward in our quest to get Mason into remission.
