Helping Families Focus on What Matters Most

With nearly 95% of all pediatric cancer families reporting financial difficulties as the result of a child being diagnosed with cancer, it is no wonder our PCFLV families often tell us they are not sure how they would have survived without our help. More than half of pediatric cancer parents are forced to quit their jobs or severely cut back on hours worked in order to meet the needs of their warrior and their family in crisis. Financial “toxicity” is often an unexpected side effect of the pediatric cancer journey. How does PCFLV battle that toxicity? Through the distribution of gift cards for gas, groceries, hospital cafeterias, and holiday shopping; through assistance with major non-medical bills such as rent, mortgage, electricity, and car repairs; and with our Warrior and Bereaved Sibling Scholarship programs, which have provided almost $250,000 for college and trade school for some of the bravest kiddos we know.

Feed The Family

When putting dinner on the table feels like one worry too many. Throughout the year, families receive fully prepared restaurant meals for the whole family, grocery deliveries during treatment, grocery store gift cards, and holiday staples like turkeys at Thanksgiving and hams at Easter—all designed to help ease the everyday cost and stress of keeping a family fed during an incredibly difficult time.

Treatment Travel Assistance

Being in treatment often means daily appointments and sometimes hours traveling in the car. We help families with the everyday costs of getting to and through their child’s cancer treatment with gift cards for gas and hospital cafeteria meals, and assistance with other unexpected travel-related expenses. By easing these costs, families can focus more of their time and energy on their child and their care.

Scholarship Program

PCFLV celebrates the strength and resilience of our cancer warriors and bereaved siblings as they look toward the future. PCFLV awards one-time scholarships of $5,000 to pediatric cancer survivors and $3,000 to bereaved siblings pursuing a college or trade school education, helping them reach for their dreams and pursue the future they envision.

More Ways We Help Ease the Financial Burden

Adopt-A-Family

Each December, we bring extra joy to families by providing grocery and shopping gift cards to help make holiday meals and gift-giving a little easier.

Back-to-School Supplies

Each August, we throw a party and distribute backpacks and age-appropriate school supplies to help our families’ school-aged children start the new year fully-equipped and ready to learn.

Funeral Expense Assistance

When a family has lost a child, we help ease the financial burden of funeral expenses by providing a $2,500 end-of-life stipend.

Birthday Club

Every year, we celebrate our cancer warriors and their siblings ages 18 and under with a personalized card and a gift card to pick out something special for their birthday.

Non-Essential Wishes

When finances are tight, families can receive special experiences such as a favorite meal, a movie outing, or theater tickets, creating moments of joy and normalcy without adding to their financial burden.

Essential Wishes

This program helps families address urgent needs such as past-due rent, mortgage or utility bills, medically necessary home repairs, and car repairs needed for safe travel to treatment.
